<p>The Facilities Maintenance Technician – Diesel Mechanic (FMT-DM) is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting the serviceability of the facilities, the power generation and electrical distribution systems (along with the related equipment) at the NWS Short and Long Range Radar sites within the zone.  Also, the FMT-DM is responsible for ensuring that associated administrative requirements are completed in accordance with standard operating procedures.</p>
<p>Specifically, the FMT-DM provides diagnostic, problem solving and repair capabilities in servicing of static and mobile electronics equipment; and, documents, reports and maintains facilities files as related to the NWS work management system, operational field reports, data analysis, etc.</p>
<p><strong>This is an <span style="text-decoration: underline">8&#215;4 Rotational</span> position (8 weeks on-site and 4 weeks on leave from work).</strong>  Work is normally carried out in remote Arctic locations with exposure to severe outdoor winter weather conditions; and, this position requires frequent travel by helicopter to/from remote radar sites.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A licensed journeyman and post journeyman experience in one of the following or related trades: Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic, Truck &amp; Coach Technician, Automotive Technician</li>
<li>Minimum 2 years’ proven experience in major/minor diesel engine overhauls</li>
<li>Must be familiar with programmable logic controllers</li>
<li>Solid communication and computer skills (MS Word and Excel)</li>
<li>Hands-on mechanical experience with Lister HL6 and Caterpillar 3400 series engines would be an asset</li>
<li>Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of the position, previous electronic/electrical/industrial mechanical maintenance experience (preferably in power plant operation) would be an asset</li>
<li>Ability to integrate successfully into a small, multi-cultural and team-oriented department</li>
<li>Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse conditions in isolated Arctic locations</li>
<li>Must be a Canadian citizen, be eligible for <strong>SECRET</strong> security clearance, possess a valid driver’s license and pass a pre-employment medical.</li>
</ul>

<p align="left">Reporting to the Depot Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting radar redesign work in support of the ongoing operation and maintenance of the AN/FPS-124 radar and related North Warning System (NWS) systems and providing technical support for the Repair and Maintenance Operation.</p>
<p align="left"> <strong>Responsibilities</strong><strong>: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Develop project design files including:  statement of requirements and justification, business case analysis, risk and impact analysis, preliminary and final designs, and preliminary and final costing estimates</li>
<li>Prepare complete engineering designs for projects from approved business plan and present project briefs at technical design review meetings</li>
<li>Develop maintenance plans for system designs and training requirements for maintenance personnel</li>
<li>Provide design and technical support during the implementation phase of projects</li>
<li>Assist with procurement and component engineering problems</li>
<li>Provide technical support for the Repair and Maintenance Operation</li>
<li>Perform other duties assigned by higher authority that may include trips to or working at the NWS sites</li>
</ul>
<p align="left"><strong> Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>B. Sc. degree in Electronic, Electrical, or Computer Engineering</li>
<li>Professional Engineer (Ontario) designation considered an asset</li>
<li>Minimum 5 years’ related experience in design and support of electronics systems with in-depth knowledge of RF, analog and digital circuits</li>
<li>Thorough knowledge of complex electrical/electronic engineering theory, particularly with application to radar and technology</li>
<li>Experience in a lab or testing environment considered an asset</li>
<li>FPGA design experience considered an asset</li>
<li>Competency in the use of Matlab for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills, including technical analysis and report writing, root cause analysis, business case development and technical presentations</li>

<h1>8 x 4 Rotational Position</h1>
<p>The Power Plant Supervisor will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the day to day power plant operations and maintenance of both the main and standby plants. The incumbent will supervise certified Power Plant Technicians.</p>
<p>This position works on a shift schedule working on an 8&#215;4 rotation (8 weeks on site and 4 weeks on leave). Work is carried out in a remote Arctic location with exposure to severe outdoor winter weather conditions.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Maintain the safe operation and oversee the monitoring, inspection, maintenance, overhaul and repair of the main and standby power plants, including the standby and satellite boilers</li>
<li>Develop and define operational policies and procedures</li>
<li>Maintain safety and environmental standards and ensures applicable rules and regulations are in compliance</li>
<li>Maintain adequate records and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual operational plans, reports and deliverables</li>
<li>Select, supervise, train, develop and evaluate performance of power plant staff to ensure a high level of productivity and the best use of staff capabilities</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic or Industrial Electrician or Electrical Generating Systems Technician (Level 6A)</li>
<li>5+ years experience in operating a diesel generator power plant of 1500KW or greater with supervisory experience in maintenance and operational requirements</li>
<li>Strong work ethic, ability to manage multiple priorities, solid interpersonal, communications and documentation skills</li>
<li>Must be eligible for <strong>ENHANCED RELIABILITY</strong> security clearance and pass a pre-employment medical</li>
<li>Must possess a valid passport to overnight in Thule, Greenland during on-route to CFS Alert, NU</li>

<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>

<li>Assist various tradespeople in carrying out their work</li>
<li>Carrying tools, supplies and materials around the jobsite</li>
<li>Remove and clear snow and ice from walkways and stairs to ensure that these areas are maintained ice- and snow-free to allow the safe passage of personnel</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Must be physically capable to perform required duties &#8211; standing for long periods, lifting 50lbs or more.</li>
<li>Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team</li>
<li>Ability to work for extended periods of time – up to 12 hour shifts</li>
<li>Ability to work outdoors with exposure to severe outdoor winter weather conditions</li>
<li>Related experience an asset</li>

<p align="left">Reporting to the Depot Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting radar redesign work in support of the ongoing operation and maintenance of the AN/FPS-124 radar and related North Warning System (NWS) systems and providing technical support for the Repair and Maintenance Operation.</p>
<p align="left"> <strong>Responsibilities</strong><strong>: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Develop project design files including:  statement of requirements and justification, business case analysis, risk and impact analysis, preliminary and final designs, and preliminary and final costing estimates</li>
<li>Prepare complete engineering designs for projects from approved business plan and present project briefs at technical design review meetings</li>
<li>Develop maintenance plans for system designs and training requirements for maintenance personnel</li>
<li>Provide design and technical support during the implementation phase of projects</li>
<li>Assist with procurement and component engineering problems</li>
<li>Provide technical support for the Repair and Maintenance Operation</li>
<li>Perform other duties assigned by higher authority that may include trips to or working at the NWS sites</li>
</ul>
<p align="left"><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>

<li>B. Sc. degree in Electronic, Electrical, or Computer Engineering</li>
<li>Professional Engineer (Ontario) designation considered an asset</li>
<li>Minimum 5 years’ related experience in design and support of electronics systems with in-depth knowledge of RF, analog and digital circuits</li>
<li>Thorough knowledge of complex electrical/electronic engineering theory, particularly with application to radar and technology</li>
<li>Experience in a lab or testing environment considered an asset</li>

<li>Competency in the use of Matlab for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications</li>

<p>We are building a candidate pool for our annual casual/temporary northern project opportunities (available from March to December) as well as backfill and permanent positions.</p>
<p>Reporting to the Logistics Support Site (LSS) Manager, the Site Supervisor leads a ramp-up team to ensure for the smooth operation of project maintenance activities at an assigned North Warning System site. This work is carried out in remote arctic location(s) requiring travel by helicopter to/from remote radar sites.</p>
<p><strong>Key Accountabilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Supervise a ramp-up team consisting of semi/skilled trades positions (Chef, Facilities Maintenance Technician, Vehicle Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Operator, Labourer, Building Custodian and Bear Monitor)</li>
<li>Conduct initial site briefing and safety meeting with ramp-up staff; deliver daily “toolbox” safety meetings to all site staff</li>
<li>Ensure adherence to site fire protection and safety programs in accordance with Nasittuq policies and procedures<br />
Complete daily reports on activities and challenges, including a summary of upcoming tasks and events; and, ensure all steps on the closure checklist are completed</li>
<li>Conduct site walk around to inspect buildings and structures, report on any observations and enter into daily log</li>
<li>Provide LSS Manager with an “Issue Tally Sheet” on a weekly basis listing all material issued from the warehouse, including Mobile Systems Equipment parts.</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned which are unplanned or of a transient nature</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>5 years’ experience supervising teams in an operations and maintenance capacity at a remote site</li>
<li>Post secondary education in a technical or trade background required; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered</li>
<li>Project management skills in regards to tracking, organizing and scheduling Strong communication, reporting, computer (MS Word and Excel), analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills</li>
<li>Self-motivated with ability to follow procedures, manage priorities, make sound decisions, work in a changing environment, and work collaboratively and cross-culturally</li>
<li>Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHIMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Waste Management requirements</li>
<li>Candidates must be Canadian citizens, be eligible for SECRET security clearance, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass a pre-employment medical; security cleared candidates are encouraged to clearly identify clearance status on resume</li>

<p><strong>CANDIDATE POOL/RELIEF POOL OPPORTUNITIES</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left">We are building a candidate pool for our annual casual/temporary northern project opportunities (available from March to December) as well as backfill and permanent positions.</p>
<p style="text-align: center">***4th Year Apprentices are welcome to apply***</p>
<p>Locations: Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Newfoundland</p>
<p><strong>Key Accountabilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Perform major/minor maintenance support to the Mobile Systems Equipment (MSE) and other equipment</li>
<li>Identify/Advise the MSE Technical Support Coordinator of major maintenance activities or supply constraints affecting equipment serviceability</li>
<li>Provide recommendations for repair, overhaul and decommission actions</li>
<li>Prepare and complete site MSE reports</li>
<li>Provide limited training to the Heavy Equipment Operator on the proper methods of completing Preventative Maintenance</li>
<li>Inspections (PMI) tasks on MSE</li>
<li>Adhere to Nasittuq environmental policies related to the storage and disposal of hazardous material</li>
<li>Assume all other duties and assignments deemed appropriate by the Site Supervisor</li>
<li>Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:</li>
<li>Journeyman qualification in Heavy Equipment or Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic or Automotive Service Technician with experience repairing heavy equipment</li>
<li>Skilled in the use of diagnostic equipment</li>
<li>Broad knowledge of electronics and mathematics, and how complex vehicle components work</li>
<li>Self-motivated with ability to follow procedures, problem-solve, adapt to changing tasks and locations, and work collaboratively and cross-culturally</li>
<li>Candidates must be Canadian citizens, be eligible for SECRET security clearance, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass a pre-employment medical</li>
</ul>
<p>This position is covered under the provision of the collective agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local 1541. The work is carried out in remote arctic location(s) requiring travel by  helicopter to/from remote radar sites.</p>
<p>We offer a competitive hourly rate of pay. Travel, meals and accommodation provided.</p>
