The Development Program is designed to provide Land Claim Beneficiaries with new job skills and qualifications for employment opportunities available at Nasittuq at the technical or professional level, as opposed to entry-level.
The positions are permanent in nature, however, timely progression in achieving required qualifications and consistent proficient performance is a requirement for continued participation in the program. The length of the development period ranges from 2-to-4 years, depending on the position.
The program consists of a combination of on-the-job training and enrolment into an external certification program and/or courses at a recognized educational institution. Some examples of current and past development positions include Journeyperson Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Operator, Environmental Specialist, Site Manager and Electronics Maintenance Technician. A detailed and personalized training plan is developed for each employee based on current levels of experience and training.
Developmental employees who successfully complete the program are qualified to fill permanent positions upon any vacancies.
