Trainee Program
The primary objective of the Trainee Program is to provide Land Claim Beneficiaries with new job skills and qualifications for entry-level opportunities available at Nasittuq.
The positions are temporary and are generally 12-to-18 months in length. As the program usually takes place in Ottawa, ON, the employment period may include housing and paid trips back home for Land Claim Beneficiaries hired from outside of Ottawa.
The programs consist of a combination of on-the-job training and the requirement to enrol and pass identified external training. Some examples of current and past trainee positions include Accounting Clerk Trainee, Human Resources Trainee, Logistics Trainee and Library Trainee. A detailed and personalized training plan is developed for each trainee, based on current levels of experience and training. Trainees must show progression and must remain in good standing with external training/education courses.
On completion of the program, trainees can apply for vacancies within Nasittuq and are also qualified to apply for entry-level positions elsewhere. Or, as Nasittuq looks to the future, the Trainee Program may act as a springboard into the Development program, to develop and hone more technical skills, if applicable.
